Electronic Medical Record: Home

This guide shows the basics of electronic medical records. At Wake Forest Baptist Health, the patient's electronic medical record is called myWakeHealth.

Introduction

Electronic medical records were originally created in the 1960s and 1970s here in the United States. The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act called for a national electronic medical record system, hence spurring the interest of American healthcare institutions to provide electronic record-keeping systems for healthcare workers and consumers of healthcare, i.e. a patient portal - known as myWakeHealth at Wake Forest Baptist.

This article from the American Health and Information Management Journal gives a brief history of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
