Library Resources: Access Instructions and Announcements

This regularly updated guide will instruct users on how to access library resources and will provide information about upcoming changes.

Current topics:

  • Access to library resources will be changing in the coming months. Please refer to the access options in the sections below to learn how best to access library resources when this occurs.

How To Access Library Resources

Upcoming changes to our network will no longer provide on campus access to many library resources. The best way to gain access is to start your search at the library's homepage. Using the catalog search or homepage links will direct you to a service that provides access to subscribed materials. You will need to select the WFU School of Medicine Carpenter Library option and proceed with the instructions for entering your credentials.

To continue with authentication, click here and then proceed to the library's homepage.

If there are questions, you can ask for help online or call the main campus library at 336.716.4414

Library Bookmarklet

A Library Bookmarklet is a tool that you can place on your browser's bookmarks bar to quickly access subscription-based library resources. If you encounter a paywall or other access issue to a journal article you can use the bookmarklet to check if the library provides access.

How to install and use the Library Bookmarklet

  1. Drag and drop the following link to your browser’s bookmarks bar:

    Library Bookmarklet

  2. When you're on a page with a resource you'd like to access (such as an article or database), click the bookmarklet from your bookmarks bar.
  3. You might be prompted to log in with your credentials. Once logged in, you should be redirected to the library’s version of the resource.

The bookmarklet may not work due to scripting or other internet based errors. In those instances, please try accessing the resource from the library's website or contact library support for assistance. Please note that the bookmarklet will not work for resources the library doesn't subscribe to.

Library Link

You can test library access to subscribed materials by adding this text at the beginning of a URL: https://login.wake.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

This is the library's proxy prefix information and lets publishers know you should have access due to the library's paid subscription. This is the manual version of what the Library Bookmarklet does automatically, which redirects you through your institution’s login for access.

For example, if you're on the Journal of Pediatric Surgery website and can't access articles, adding the proxy prefix will notify the publisher of your affiliation, prompt authentication, and allow access to the articles afterward.

Without proxy prefix (Will not provide access): https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/journal-of-pediatric-surgery
