While it is not recommended to save your working library on a network drives, cloud-based drive, or other external source, it is OK to save your backups to a networked drive. These drives are often backed up so you don't run the risk of loosing your files if the computer crashes.
FYI, some Documents folders are actually networked drives.
To Save a Compressed Backup Copy
An EndNote library is made up of a library file (.enl) and a data folder (.dat). It is important to always ensure these two files are kept together. While Save a copy will create a file copy, the Compress Library (.enlx) option will keep both required parts together. Just remember, when it comes time to use these files, they will need to be extracted.
