Library Policies

Children in the Library

Children under the age of 16 will not be allowed in the Library unless they are under the direct supervision of an adult caregiver. The reasons for this policy are several:

  • Since the Carpenter Library is a medical research library, Internet access is unfiltered. This unedited access to the Internet may not be in your child’s best interest.
  • The Library’s computers are to be used for research and other Medical Center related activities.
  • In support of its medical research mission, the Carpenter Library’s resources are selected for the adult researcher and the advanced student.
  • The Library seeks to maintain an environment that is conducive to study and research.

If a child is left in the Library without an adult present, Library staff will attempt to contact the child’s parent. If that is not possible, staff will contact Medical Center Security.
